The "swap mode" is clearly encouraged, and the new energy vehicle market is changing again?

At the State Council press conference held on July 23, Xin Guobin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology, stated that the ``New Energy Automobile Industry Development Plan (2021-2035)'' has now been submitted to the State Council, and power exchange will become a new consumption hotspot in the next planning period. . "Charging and swapping are both energy supplement methods for electric vehicles, each with its own advantages and applicable fields and consumer groups. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology encourages companies to explore the application of the ‘separated vehicle and electricity’ model to meet the needs of different markets."

The new energy automobile industry has given a clear development direction in the future. It is not difficult to imagine that the enthusiasm of investors who swarmed to make electric vehicles in the past will be replicated, but this time everyone will follow the trend to switch models and switch stations.

Why do government departments attach so much importance to the "separation of vehicle and electricity" model? This should start from the bottleneck in the development of electric vehicles.

China's new energy vehicles have been vigorously developed for ten years under the support of a series of favorable policies. Not only has the scale of China's new energy vehicle market been ranked first in the world, but also the resistance that hinders the promotion and popularization of electric vehicles has been presented. Among them, Including cruising range and charging time.

In terms of cruising range, over the years, after the unremitting efforts of power battery manufacturers and OEMs, the current cruising range of pure electric vehicles has exceeded 700 kilometers. There are also many products for electric vehicles with a range of more than 500 kilometers, such as Weilai, Xiaopeng, GAC New Energy, BYD, etc., have further shortened the cruising range of traditional fuel vehicles.

But charging time has always been a shortcoming of pure electric vehicles.

Electric vehicles have two modes: fast charging and slow charging. In the slow charging state, a full charge of an electric car generally takes 8-10 hours, while in the fast charging state, most electric vehicles can be fully charged within one hour. Electricity, individual electric vehicles can shorten this time to 40 minutes. Nevertheless, compared with the time required for a traditional fuel vehicle to fill up in 5 minutes, the charging time of electric vehicles is still long. In the fast-paced metropolis where every second counts, car owners may not have so much leisure time to charge electric vehicles.

At this time, the "replacement" mode of "separation of vehicle and electricity" is a good solution.

The so-called "separation of vehicle and electricity" means the separation of electric vehicles and batteries. Vehicle owners can own and use vehicles through battery rental programs, purchase of battery replacement packages, and other methods. When the power of the electric car is insufficient, the car owner does not need to spend a lot of time on the charging station to charge the car, just go to the swap station to replace a fully charged battery to continue using the car.

For consumers, the "replacement" mode can not only reduce part of the car purchase cost (power battery), but also don't have to worry about battery loss, quality assurance and other issues, and there is no need to worry about fire and spontaneous combustion accidents during the charging process, because so far, there is no case. A safety accident occurred in a battery swapping vehicle.

Therefore, in 2020, as an important part of the new infrastructure, the power swap station will be included in the government work report for the first time, and the new energy vehicle subsidy will also give policy encouragement to the swap mode.

Xin Guobin said that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will work with relevant departments to vigorously promote the construction of new energy vehicle charging and swapping infrastructure, improve relevant technical standards and management policies, encourage enterprises to develop battery swap mode models based on applicable scenarios, and support pilot promotion in Beijing, Hainan and other places to promote High-quality development of the new energy automobile industry.
