Lithium-ion battery foreign test standard

The standards of battery products, especially safety standards, are an important basis for constraining quality and an important means of regulating market order and promoting technological progress. The author introduces and summarizes the existing common standards at home and abroad, and briefly discusses the problems in these standard systems.

First, the foreign power lithium-ion battery standard

Table 1 lists the test standards for lithium-ion batteries commonly used abroad. The standard issuing agencies mainly include the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Underwriters Laboratories (UL), the American Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and related institutions in the European Union.

1 International standard

The power lithium-ion battery standard issued by the IEC mainly includes IEC 62660-1:2010 "Lithium-ion power battery unit for electric road vehicles Part 1: Performance test" and IEC 62660-2:2010 "Li-ion power battery for electric road vehicles" Monomer Part 2: Reliability and Abuse Testing. The United Nations Transport Committee issued UN 38. 3 "United Nations Recommendations and Test Manual for the Transport of Dangerous Goods". The requirements for lithium battery testing are for the safety of the battery during transportation.

ISO standards for power lithium-ion batteries are ISO 12405-1:2011 "Electric Drive Vehicles - Lithium Ion Power Battery Packs and Systems Test Procedures Part 1: High Power Applications", ISO 12405-2:2012 "Electricity" Driving vehicles - Lithium-ion battery packs and systems - Test procedures - Part 2: High-energy applications and ISO 12405-3:2014 "Electric drive vehicles - Test procedures for lithium-ion battery packs and systems - Part 3: Safety requirements 》, for high-power batteries, high-energy batteries and safety performance requirements, the purpose is to provide optional test items and test methods for OEMs.

2 American Standard

UL 2580:2011 "Batteries for Electric Vehicles" mainly evaluates the reliability of battery abuse and the ability to protect people in the event of abuse. This standard was revised in 2013.

SAE has a large and well-established standard system in the automotive field. SAE J2464: 2009, "Safety and Abuse Testing of Rechargeable Energy Storage Systems for Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles", is an early batch of automotive battery abuse test manuals for use in North America and the world, clearly pointing out The scope of each test item and the data that needs to be collected also gives recommendations for the number of samples required for the test item.

SAE J2929: 2011 “Safety Standard for Electric and Hybrid Battery Systems” is the safety standard proposed by SAE in the various power battery related standards promulgated before the conclusion, including two parts: Electric vehicles may appear during driving General case tests and abnormal condition tests.

SAE J2380: 2013 "Vibration test of electric vehicle battery" is a classic standard for vibration test of electric vehicle battery. Based on the statistical results of vibration load spectrum collected by actual vehicle roads, the test method is more in line with the actual vehicle vibration. Has important reference value.

3 Other organizational standards

The US Department of Energy (DOE) is responsible for energy policy development, energy industry management, and energy-related technology research and development. In 2002, the US government established the Freedom CAR project, which has issued the Freedom CAR Power Assisted Hybrid Electric Vehicle Battery Test Manual and the Abuse Test Manual for Energy Storage Systems for Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles.

The German Automobile Industry Association (VDA) is an association formed by Germany to unify the various standards of the domestic automotive industry. The standard issued is VDA 2007 "Battery System Test for Hybrid Electric Vehicles", which is mainly for lithium-ion battery systems for hybrid vehicles. Performance and reliability testing.

The European Economic Commission (ECE) R100. 2 “Regulations on the Approval of Vehicles for Special Requirements for Electric Vehicles” is the specific requirements of ECE for electric vehicles. It is divided into two parts: The first part is about the protection of the whole vehicle. Four aspects of charging energy storage system, functional safety and hydrogen emission are regulated. The second part is the new specific requirements for the safety and reliability of rechargeable energy storage systems.
